Why the fee line is bigger than it looks

Marketplaces rarely charge one fee. A sale usually triggers a commission on the total including shipping, a fixed fee per order, payment processing, and sometimes an advertising fee on the whole order. Sellers who price against the headline percentage typically discover the problem when the payout arrives, not when they set the price.

The other half of the problem is cost that never appears on the platform at all: the label, the packaging, the returns, the ad spend. That is why every calculator here shows a break-even price and lets you set a target margin, instead of stopping at the fee total.
