eBay Fee Calculator
eBay replaced PayPal fees with a single final value fee that now covers payment processing, but the rate depends heavily on your category, and the per-order fee is easy to forget when you are pricing at volume.
This calculator starts from the common 13.25% rate for most categories, applies eBay's fixed per-order fee, and lets you add promoted listings spend. Change the category rate in the panel to match your own listings.

How eBay fees work
eBay sets final value fees per category, and they differ by site (US, UK, DE and so on). Set the rate to the one shown in your own Seller Hub before trusting the numbers.
| Fee | Typical rate | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Final value fee (most categories) | 13.25% | Applies to the total the buyer pays, including shipping and handling. |
| Per-order fee | $0.30 | Charged on every order, on top of the percentage. |
| Category variation | about 12% - 15% | Books, music, collectibles and some business categories are lower; some are higher. |
| Promoted listings | your ad rate | Only charged when a promoted listing leads to a sale. |
| Insertion fee | $0.35 | Only above your free listing allowance each month. |
Worked example
A typical order priced at $68.00 with $9.00 of shipping charged to the buyer costs you $24.00 in product and $10.40 to ship and pack.
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Buyer pays | $77.00 |
| Total platform fees | -$10.50 |
| Product, shipping and other costs | -$34.40 |
| Net profit | $32.10 (41.69% margin) |
| Break-even price | $31.00 |
What sellers get wrong on eBay
- Pricing against the headline fee only. The commission is rarely the whole cost: fixed fees, payment processing and advertising add several points on top.
- Forgetting what shipping really costs. If you charge the buyer less than the label and packaging actually cost, every sale quietly loses money.
- Ignoring returns. A 3% return rate on a 20% margin product removes a sixth of your profit. Put it in the reserve field.
- Never checking the break-even price. Knowing the lowest price you can accept on an offer is the difference between a negotiation and a loss.
eBay fee calculator FAQ
What percentage does eBay take in 2026?
For most categories the final value fee is 13.25%, charged on the total amount the buyer pays including shipping. Parts and accessories, some media and some business categories are cheaper, and a few are more expensive.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the item price plus shipping and handling, which is why inflating shipping to dodge fees does not work.
Do I still pay PayPal fees on eBay?
No. eBay manages payments itself in most markets and the final value fee includes payment processing, which is why the percentage is much higher than it was in the PayPal era.
How do returns affect my profit?
Set the returns reserve to the share of revenue you expect to lose to returns, refunds and damaged items. Even 2-3% changes the break-even price noticeably on low-margin items.
